Read My Mind
Welcome to my blog - I hope you find it inspiring, useful, and a good read. Music, yoga, surfing, the ocean, the mountains, these flow through and around me, so you can find plenty of their influence here. Hopefully, I can also turn you on to some of the musicians, poets, philosophers, and thinkers that I have found inspiring.

Art as Truth

Hard to believe it's been nine months since my last blog post. Life has been moving fast this year. As I listen to a mix of one of the new songs for "Angels in the Atmosphere" I came across an old journal entry...

The Irish poet and philosopher John O'Donohue continues to blow me away. Here's a gem from his book "Beauty":

The Power of the Witness

I'm doing a lousy job sleeping tonight but I'm doing a decent job writing, and for whatever reason I'm on a science related kick lately, so I'm going to share with you a thought that has one foot in science and one foot in mystery: the power inherent in the simple act of witnessing events in someone's life.

Science and Mystery

I had the pleasure of attending the "Imagination & Medicine Conference II" at Pacifica Graduate Institute recently. A weekend long symposium, it approaches the mind-body connection from a collection of different viewpoints. There was a lot of food for thought there and it certainly got me thinking about quite a few things, among them the relationship between science and mystery and what it means to us as humans. Not necessarily a musical topic per se, but it's what's on my mind, so here goes...

Nature Time

We are in the middle of a crazy week of storms here in Santa Barbara, which is rare for us. I bet 90% of the people in Santa Barbara own flip flops but do not own an umbrella - kind of the reverse of Seattle. So I thought I would share some photos I shot recently when the trails were beautiful and surf was good!

Rincon, last Wednesday. Kelly Slater was supposedly out earlier in the day.

I wish I had a zoom lens. Look closely - there's a guy executing a lovely bottom turn on this wave.

This guy is getting one sweet barrel.

This is the Carpinteria bluffs area (Rincon is the point in the distance).

The bluffs lead down to part of the Carpinteria beach that has this otherwordly feel to it. The tar oozes out of the ground around here so the rocks are all covered with. Beautiful alien landscape.

Thanks to the tar the water in this area gets an interesting reflective quality..

Literally, less than five minutes from the beach, you have the trails. I run these all the time.

I love the color palette and depth of field in this shot.

Just felt like sharing. Have a wonderful day!
